POEMS 2 Love (C)
Molly        1989-27/4/2006
Traces in philosophy signify absence
lack
but your traces
revealed in the unexpected ray of sunshine
are gifts
‘I’m still here’ you tell me
‘I love you’ I say to the dull patch where you often sat

I swore I’d never wash away your paw print
but ‘no,’ you tell me, ‘my prints are everywhere’
and will remain
like Songlines
all the steps we shared
in the dance of life
forever there

29/4/06 (C)
My Parents (C)
My parents loved to dance

My mother, survived by her dance shoes,
silver and deep blue, many strapped,
with one tiny buckle…

My father’s were shinier
well polished, with soles that slipped effortlessly across any floor
into a world without fear
where music erased the sounds of war…

My father, always smiling,
led her onto the floor…
She followed,
counting out the steps,
forward… back…  back… forward…
a staccato voice in her head

My father (C)
My father, a sun worshipper,
with his own rituals,
the only time he was still,
wasn’t washing dishes, redecorating, upcycling…

Prone on the sand
oblivious to the siren song of the sea
defying the east wind,
‘Not cold, fresh’ he said,
time and time again

My father, a gambler,
who only bet on long shots
always generous with his winnings
always ready for when his ship came in.
